Theatre teacher & Director

I found teaching in a roundabout way, going the non-traditional route. I got my vocal performance degree and then went on to get my theatrical directing degree with the hopes of making it in the theatre industry somehow. Jump ahead 12 years and I was dive bombed on a woman who worked for the Department of Education in Arkansas by my father at my sister's wedding reception in February. I moved in July and began what now has come to be 15 years of teaching. I love it so much but am also VERY cognisant of the fact that teaching is different. I am so thankful as my own education was wrought with shame, guilt, and living what I thought others expected of me. I created my classroom to be a place of safety where I did not have that when I was in school. I head the LGBTQ Gay club called Prism down here in the ole state of Arkansas and each day feels like a little bit of an uphill battle. This state is under the ranks of Republican backlash and I just want my kiddos to know that they are ok and safe in my classroom. My 2023-2024 year goal: Just to keep kiddos alive.
